Happy Blog Swap Day! Today Liz is taking over my blog and writing about her trip to Scotland. I took over hers and wrote about my love of summer lovin’. Enjoy!
Hi everyone! I’m Liz from Landscapes of ME. Since the theme of this blog swap is summer, I wanted to write about my favorite summer vacation – Scotland.
I went to Scotland during the summer of 2001 with my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin. We spent the first day and night in Glasgow. I didn’t see a lot of it (or get any pictures) but from what I remember, it was a great town for interesting architecture. A lot of it was in the gothic style and beautiful.
The next day we headed into the Highlands. We spent a few days taking trips to the ocean, into the mountains, and –finally – up to Loch Ness. While I didn’t see any monster, I did see the ruins of a castle across from where we had lunch.
We next spent two days in my favorite city in the world – St. Andrews. I immediately fell in love with it. It’s a big city, but to doesn’t feel over crowded like some can. It is right on the ocean and has both the ruins of a castle and ruins of a cathedral. When I was 22, I was *this close* to running away there.
We ended up in Edinburgh for a day before we flew back to Maine. Although we didn’t spend a lot of time there, we did a quick trip of Edinburgh Castle – I even got to see the crown jewels.
I wish that I could go back and spend more time hiking in the Highlands (I didn’t get to do that on this trip). Maybe someday I will…
